The SPARTAN-II Program

The SPARTAN-II program is the 1st huge success of the SPARTAN programs, an effort to make elite soldiers through mechanical and biological augmentation. SPARTAN-II will be the 1st in the series to meld advanced exoskeleton technology with the soldiers' greatest physiques. Spartan-IIs experienced extensive and invasive physical augmentations out of all the generations of the Spartan, beginning augmentation at pubescent ages improved their physical mass and height to around 7 feet by adult age.

How Many Spartan 2s are Left?

As of April 2559, fourteen active Spartan-IIs are there. The Blue and Red teams members stayed under NAVSPECWAR's operational command, and the Gray Team and Naomi-010 persisted under the authority of the Office of Naval Intelligence. How Many Spartan 2s Were Made?

Halo Wars' timeline says that a total of 25 out of 28 surviving SPARTAN-IIs are there at Reach. The 3 absent SPARTAN-IIs were the Gray Team's members. This timeline says that 5 SPARTAN-IIs were not in active duty from the augmentation of the SPARTAN-IIs. Kurt-051, Samuel-034, Randall, Sheila, and another SPARTAN-II mentioned being "too wounded to continue active duty" were part of this count. The wounded SPARTAN-II can be Maria-062, who by Earth's battle had "retired" with the intent of beginning a family.

SPARTAN-II Background

Following the inactivation of the initial ORION Project in 2506, the UNSC found it difficult to oversee the efficiency of small special troops fighting insurrectionists. The need for large-scale military campaigns became more apparent as insurgent forces became more effective and military actions became more forceful as a result. The Carver Findings, which had warned of instability in the Outer Colonies years before, were reexamined by the Office of Naval Intelligence about 2510.

SPARTAN-II Creation

The ORION Project's Generation II was launched in 2511 as the best way to put a stop to the massive insurrection that raged over UNSC space. The project was developed with a number of objectives in mind. The initial objective was to build a group of elite warriors capable of putting down insurgencies in their early stages without causing significant military deaths. The second purpose was to avoid civil conflict by minimising civilian losses.
