BIOGRAPHY
Before beginning her acting career, Vera Miles became Miss Kansas in 1948. This local fame allowed her to obtain small roles in Hollywood, in cinema and on television. Alfred Hitchcock signed her to a contract and offered her the lead female role in The False Guilty (1957) opposite Henry Fonda . And if she declined the main role in Cold Sweats (1958) due to pregnancy, she appeared in a supporting role in Psycho (1960).
Other filmmakers trust him, from Henry Hathaway ( Twenty-Three Steps to Mystery ) to Robert Aldrich ( Autumn Leaves ) via Mervyn LeRoy ( The Federal Police Are Investigating ). Above all, John Ford chose it for two of his masterpieces: The Prisoner of the Desert and The Man Who Killed Liberty Valance .
At the same time, she filmed many series from the 60s, including The Fourth Dimension , Rawhide , The Fugitive , Very Special Agents and The Great Caravan . But in 1968, John Wayne hired him again to play his wife in the war film The Green Berets , but his scenes were cut to reduce the length of the film. Wayne seeks to financially compensate Vera Miles for the inconvenience ($10,000, a new car) but she firmly refuses. As a result, the actor gave him a role in his next film, The Fires of Hell .
Vera Miles then continued to work on television from 1970 to 1991 in series like Gunsmoke , Iron Man , The Streets of San Francisco , The Fun Cruise and Fantasy Island . In 1995, she made her last feature film, Separate Lives , with Jim Belushi and Linda Hamilton , then ended her career.
