The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, United States, has disclosed that Izuchukwu Madubueze, a young Nigerian man, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an accusation of sexual assault.
A Twitter influencer named Nanichi Anese accused the 23-year-old creative designer of harassment, not rape as widely claimed by friends who were angered by Izu’s demise.
Despite Izu’s attempts to reach out to Nani to ascertain the allegations, she refused to disclose the identity of the accuser.
Subsequently, Izu was bombarded by phone calls from friends questioning him about the allegation.
On July 17, Izu, who was from Anambra State, tweeted through the Crowdfire app that he had committed suicide.
Following Punch’s contact with the Tampa Police Department, it was confirmed that the case of “shooting” was handled by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Public Information Office of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Izu shot himself on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
Deputy Travis Sibley, a spokesman for the office, stated, “Izuchukwu Madubueze was the victim of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 16, 2020. The case is open and active and no further information will be provided at this time.”
Expressing their sorrow, Izu’s family released a statement describing his death as shocking and emphasizing his positive impact on others.
Debates on Twitter concerning whether Izu was guilty of harassment are ongoing.
Nani released screenshots of a chat between Izu and an anonymous lady to support her claim of the harassment allegations.
Twitter users are divided on the new information, with some supporting Nani and others opposing her.
Some argue that an accused person’s suicide doesn’t prove innocence, while others demand that it should be a crime to publish names of individuals as sexual offenders without a court conviction.
