A new benchmark has been set for the Lorne area after a stunning hillside property more than doubled the Big Hill house price record.
The sprawling 1193 Great Ocean Road pad, boasting unobstructed ocean views and its own private beach, sold for an undisclosed sum within its initial $8m-$8.5m price tag in a sale that blitzed the previous Big Hill benchmark by more than $4m.
It was previously held by the $4.025m sale of celebrity chef Shannon Bennett and actor Madeleine West’s 1200 Great Ocean Road home, which sold in 2018.

The sale of No. 1193 also smashed the greater Lorne house price record by about $1m, previously set by the $7.25m sale of 1 Roadknight St in 2020.
Great Ocean Properties Aireys Inlet director Marty Maher said the purchasers were interstate buyers looking for a meeting base for their Melbourne-based children.
“They loved everything,” Mr Maher said.
“We had three (interested) parties in the end and a couple wanted to renovate but these guys wanted it as is, which really made them the perfect buyers.”
The 5533sq m property is one of only nine on the beach side of the Great Ocean Road in the Lorne area, just metres back from the sands of Loutitt Bay.
Its vendors lived there for almost 40 years and were the sole occupiers of the lavish home, which was built in the 1980s and designed by celebrated architectural firm, Edgard Pirrotta.
The five-bedroom pad stretching across four storeys offers a number of luxury features, including a resort-style pool and sunny courtyard area, mod grass tennis court, cellar, and a deck overlooking the water.
A self-contained caretaker’s residence with two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and living area is found separate to the main home.
“The view is exceptional,” Mr Maher added.
